1. Why do you want to study Japanese?
---I want to be able to communicate with everyone that I encounter everyday.
Most importantly, since my children are more fluent in Japanese than I am (due to community impact from daycare and school), I would like to be able to talk to them about anything and everything, so we can grow together. There will be disconnects between kids and adults as kids grow older, but I don't want the language barrier become one of them.
2. Before taking lessons with kt Japanese Learning, what were your problems when studying Japanese?
---First of all, since I work in a English friendly place, I don't need to speak Japanese.
Moreover, I am encouraged to speak English as I am considered a researcher that is also a Native-level English teacher.
Second, I really don't have time to take Japanese lessons while at work. Third, which is actually the most important reason, I want to maintain a multilingual environment for my kids at home.
So once I am home, there is no Japanese allowed, not even from my husband, who is a Japanese.
3. Did you decide to sign up lessons right away or were you thinking for a while?
---It took me a while before I decided to sign up. One reason for the delay is time, how I would squeeze out the time for a lesson, and how much time.
The second reason is budget planning.
4. What was the deciding factor to sign up lessons?
---After the trial lesson, I really like the personalized pace of learning the language and also the flexibility of the lesson time.
5. How are the lessons?
---So far, I enjoyed the one-on-one attention I received from the teacher compared to a group lesson. Being able to ask questions either regarding the lessons or not makes the everyday learning process more effective.
6. Could you give any message to Japanese learners who is thinking about taking lessons at kt Japanese Learning, please?
---If you are considering learning Japanese but has no time due to work or family obligations, kt Japanese Learning via Skype is a really good alternative to taking group lessons at a time that may not be convenient to you.
About Taniguchi sensei
Taniguchi Sensei is a very approachable teacher. Whenever I encounter a situation in life that needed assistant with Japanese conversation (at the hair salon, at the dentist office, at the library trying to make a library card...), sensei is always willing to lend a helping hand. Taniguchi sensei also understands the special needs of a working mother who sometimes have busy workdays or sick child/children to take care of, and willing to work out a schedule. On top of that, Taniguchi sensei is very good at identifying my weakness in the learning progress and personalizes lesson materials for me, which I am very grateful. And it was always fun to chat with sensei as an easy way to improve my conversational skills.

1. Before taking lessons with kt Japanese Learning, what were your problems when studying Japanese?
--- One of the difficulties I had before taking lessons was receiving a balance of speaking time as well as corrections if needed. Because of the work I had done before taking lessons, as well as the friends I made when I moved to Japan, I could understand most of what was said to me, but it was difficult to produce an answer because I was shy and felt that I lacked the vocabulary and accuracy for communication.
2. Did you decide to sign up lessons right away or were you thinking for a while?
---Moreover, I am encouraged to speak English as I am considered a researcher that is also a Native-level English teacher.
Second, I really don't have time to take Japanese lessons while at work. Third, which is actually the most important reason, I want to maintain a multilingual environment for my kids at home. So once I am home, there is no Japanese allowed, not even from my husband, who is a Japanese.
3. What was the deciding factor to sign up lessons?
--- One reason I enjoy taking lessons with kt Japanese Learning is how enjoyable the lessons are, especially because my instructor is very capable at finding suitable learning materials. I have been taking lessons twice a week for about two years now, and have been using a variety of helpful textbooks. But the lessons don’t always center around textbooks, my instructor has been very accommodating to topic changes, so I’m sure any learner will be able to find the learning style that suits them with kt Japanese Learning.
4. How are the lessons?
--- I have been taking lessons for almost three years now, and I enjoy them because my instructor’s personality is very welcoming, and although I sometimes still have trouble speaking only in Japanese, I like being able to discuss a variety of topics with my instructor, whether it’s about hobbies and free time, business matters, and even cultural differences between countries. My schedule also changes more than it used to so I appreciate my instructor’s flexibility in this matter.
5. Could you give any message to Japanese learners who is thinking about taking lessons at kt Japanese Learning, please?
--- My schedule at the time that I signed up was very strict, so I wanted lessons that fit my schedule. Additionally, and most importantly, I felt comfortable in my trial lesson with my current instructor. I also like that because my instructor has studied Chinese, they understand when I make a mistake that’s related to my Chinese knowledge, whether it’s pronunciation, or kanji reading.--- Before taking lessons with kt Japanese Learning, I had been thinking of taking lessons, and also took trial lessons from others, so I thought for a while before signing up for kt Japanese Learning.
